Retired Tennessee Sheriff Recalls Harrowing Vietnam Experiences Book signing set for Lebanon Wilson Chamber of Commerce

Terry Ashe was working in a Lebanon clock factory and planning a career in law enforcement after high school graduation, but when he received his draft card, his dreams of becoming a sheriff were put on hold. After training as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division, Ashe was promptly deployed to Vietnam, where numerous near misses, close calls, and chance encounters tested and reaffirmed his faith, but left a permanent mark that time will never erase.

In his new book, Daylight Moon, Ashe shares how he felt a guardian angel had his back, and the love of his family kept him grounded during the harrowing Tet Offensive. He describes the experience in detail, including his miraculous survival of the deadly ambush of his recon team as it drove into enemy territory. Ashe recounts the lifelong lessons learned and the lives of friends lost during the Southeast Asian battle.

The Lebanon Wilson Chamber of Commerce is hosting a book signing on Wednesday, November 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.at the Chamber office, 149 Public Square, Lebanon. Copies of Daylight Moon will be available for sale, and Ashe will be on hand to personally autograph each book.

Terry Ashe was awarded three Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, and the Cross of Gallantry, among many other honors, for his heroic service as a paratrooper and recon scout.

After his tour of duty, Ashe began his career in public service, rising from a sheriff’s deputy to Chief Detective for the Lebanon Police Department and then elected Wilson County Sheriff. He led top-notch investigative teams to solve dozens of crimes, as outlined in Ashe’s first book, his popular autobiography, Ashes of Bluebird.

Since his first run for office in 1982, Sheriff Ashe’s constituents re-elected him for eight consecutive terms, making him one of the longest-serving sheriffs in the nation. Ashe is now retired from his law enforcement career but continues to work with veterans, founding The Wilson Warriors organization to honor veterans and their families.

Daylight Moon is published by Archway, a division of Simon and Schuster, and is available on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.
