FINDING A PATH FORWARD
How do you launch a new program during a pandemic? Answer. One step at a time. And, flexibility. Lots of flexibility.
Wilson Works is building momentum one day at a time with a goal of improving pathways from training to jobs. Workforce development is crucial to any community, especially if it’s in one of the fastest growing counties in Tennessee. Despite the challenges of a pandemic, there is purpose and promise in finding a way to grow our workforce, and prepare for jobs that support families and communities. Partnering with K12 schools, local industry, and government, Wilson Works is exploring programs and services that will elevate opportunities.
In the coming months, Wilson Works will gradually roll out efforts to keep students, job seekers and employers engaged. There is no better time than now to be training, retooling, and preparing for what’s next. Wilson Works wants to ensure citizens and employers are aware of programs and partners positioned to improve skills. For example, programs such as Tennessee Reconnect (www.tnreconnect.gov) provide tuition so adults can earn a professional certificate or Associates degree. Incumbent Worker grants exist to help businesses train and retain current employees by providing skills upgrades and process improvement training. Meanwhile, Wilson County Schools offers a diverse Career and Technical Education curriculum, and dual enrollment programs for students seeking to enter the workforce after graduation. TCAT, Volunteer State, Cumberland University and MTSU continue to supply crucial workforce training that benefits students, adults, and the companies who are seeking skilled talent.
With so many options for workforce development, it can be confusing for those seeking training, jobs, or employers trying to recruit talent. The good news is that this community has exceptional opportunities. With support from incredible partners, Wilson Works remains focused on a path forward for workforce development.
Join us for an entire week through videos and social media to reflect on our annual Taste of Wilson County. Please like the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page to help us celebrate our event. During the week of December 7th– 11th, the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce and the Wilson County Business & Education Coalition are asking our communities to continue to support all local restaurants and retail stores who have given so much to education in Wilson County. The Taste of Wilson County began in 2009 to benefit Teacher Grants, Wilson Books from Birth, Tennessee Scholars and student scholarships throughout Lebanon, Mt. Juliet and Watertown.
For twenty – one years, the Wilson County Business & Education Coalition has funded 571 Teacher Grants totaling over $243,000.00, more than 19,000 children have benefited from the Wilson Books from Birth program and 5,871 high school seniors in Wilson County graduated as Tennessee Scholars and were awarded over $120,000.00 in scholarships.
We want to take this time to express our sincere appreciation to all of our past food and marketplace vendors, our Lebanon High School and Wilson Central High School culinary departments, our dignitaries, our emcee Mac Griffith, Hawk Specialty and others. All of our friends have made this a fun event every year.
A special thanks to our community partners, ticket purchasers, education systems and volunteers for always making Taste of Wilson County a successful event.
“During these unprecedented times, we are very thankful for our continued sponsors in 2020. Without you, our educational gifts would not have been possible this year,” said President & CEO Melanie Minter. “The Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce and our Business & Education Coalition are grateful for your passion and your dedication to education in Wilson County.”
